Sabine C. Herpertz
Prof. Dr. Sabine C. Herpertz, M.D. is Full Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and Director of the Department of General Psychiatry at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Her key aspects of research activities are personality disorders, borderline personality disorder and early stress related personality dysfunctioning, in particular. Thereby she focuses on impairments of emotion regulation and social cognition using fMRI and psychoendocrinology in addition to neuropsychology and experimental psychopathology. By identifying biobehavioral mechanisms underlying psychological dysfunctions her research group develops mechanism-based psychotherapeutic and biological treatment options which they test in clinical trials. She researches not only to improve treatment but also prevention, more specifically to prevent the intergenerational transmission of personality dysfunctions within families by supporting individuals with personality disorders in parental care responsibilities.
